Kimm Topping, Ed.M. (they/them), is a storyteller at heart, weaving together history, art, and education to illuminate the vibrant and dynamic lives of LGBTQIA+ communities.

As a writer, educator, historian, and artist, Kimm creates spaces where creativity and advocacy thrive together. Through Lavender Education, the national program they founded, Kimm combines arts and education to celebrate queer and trans histories. Their workshops, coaching, curriculum design, and editorial services empower individuals and organizations to tell their stories, spark dialogue, and foster meaningful change.

Kimm approaches their work with curiosity and a deep commitment to amplifying marginalized voices. Whether leading a walking tour of historical feminist sites, supporting K-12 educators in their learning, or guiding writers through the twists and turns of book proposals, they bring a blend of rigor and joy. Their creative process is rooted in the belief that stories have the power to connect, heal, and transform.

Before founding Lavender Education, Kimm managed the Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students in Massachusetts, where they advocated for policies and practices to create safer, more inclusive learning environments. In recognition of their significant contributions to the transgender community, Kimm was honored with the inaugural In-Service Award by the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition in 2023.

Kimm also serves as an Adjunct Lecturer on Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where they collaborate with educators to embrace equity-driven practices and foster inclusive learning environments. Their role at Harvard allows them to merge theory and practice, equipping students with the tools to advocate for systemic change in education.

Kimm’s debut book, Generation Queer, is the first collection of illustrated biographies celebrating LGBTQIA+ youth activists. Beyond the page, Kimm is a mixed-media artist whose collages reflect the beauty and complexity of queer life. They are continually inspired by the vibrancy of the LGBTQIA+ community and strive to create work that honors the past while envisioning a more inclusive future.

When they’re not writing or teaching, you might find Kimm exploring historical archives, crafting with dried florals, or finding new local queer businesses. They are available for workshops and speaking, coaching, curriculum development, and editorial services—all designed to help others shape their stories and share them with the world.
