WORKSHOPS

Workshop: Supporting the Well-Being of LGBTQIA+ Youth

Build your confidence and skills to support LGBTQIA+ youth. LGBTQIA+ youth who have at least one supportive adult in their life or who attend schools with supportive school climates not only survive, but thrive. This workshop centers the joy of LGBTQIA+ youth and provides participants with strategies around inclusive language, family acceptance, youth leadership, cultural responsiveness, and school climate.

Workshop: Inclusive Curriculum

Beyond the 101, this workshop is about expanding your curriculum, physical space, and resources to be LGBTQIA+ inclusive and accessible. Beginning with reflecting on our own experiences of inclusive curriculum (or lack thereof), we will explore the many opportunities for creating safety, joy, and support in educational spaces. This workshop focuses primarily on historical and modern LGBTQIA+ figures across subject areas, as well as accessibility and visibility in physical educational spaces.

Workshop: Partnering with Youth in Advocacy

Young people are at the forefront of social change, so how can we partner with them in their advocacy efforts without diminishing their voice and leadership? This workshop is focused on understanding adultism, learning strategies for partnering with youth leaders and activists, and gaining tangible tools to apply to your advocacy or education work.

Workshop: LGBTQIA+ Youth Leadership and Liberation

From educational access, to climate action, to violence prevention - LGBTQIA+ youth are leading movements across the country for social change. This workshop provides a few case studies of current youth leadership and action, paired with tools for youth and adults to partner with youth organizers to advance social change and liberation.

COURSES

Course: Implementing LGBTQIA+ Inclusive Curriculum

LGBTQ+ students are often searching for signals of safety, visibility, and an understanding of their communities’ histories within their schools. This 3-part course is an in-depth opportunity for educators and youth workers to apply best practices, policy, and curriculum resources to their work. The course includes three two-hour sessions: 1) “Supporting the Well-Being of LGBTQIA+ Youth” 2) “Inclusive Curriculum” and 3) a final session where participants demonstrate their learning through short presentations outlining how they will implement changes to their curriculum, school policy, and/or classroom culture.

Course: Uncovering Queer Community Histories

Queer people have always had to be our own historians - living, documenting, and keeping community knowledge intact for future generations. This course will give you the skills to become more connected to queer history through oral histories, community mapping, exploring archives, content creation, and much more. No experience with queer history is necessary! Each module focuses on a modern historian and the course culminates in an opportunity for you to share your own learnings about queer history.
